Mark Kuhns, director of grounds for Baltusrol Golf Club reflects on his career in the golf course industry, the PGA Championship, giving back to the industry and his love for Penn State.

Mark started his career as a young boy at Laurel Valley Golf Club. Woken up one morning by his brother to assist with the golf course range. After assisting staff with tee divots and seeing his hard work come to fruition with the germination of seed, Mark never looked back.

The PGA Championship is the last major of the year and it is important to the Mark and the grounds crew at Baltusrol Golf Club, that it is the very best. His team has worked tirelessly on course preparation knowing the eyes of the world with be on Baltusrol.

Attending golf course industry conferences and field days to support industry research and education. Hosting interns yearly and ensuring the education of our future remains strong.

Growing up with a small greenhouse along with his passion for golf course maintenance, made the choice to attend Penn State turfgrass program and easy one. The Penn State turfgrass program and the golf course industry has given Mark and his family a great life. He is always proud to say “We are, Penn State.”
