What’s This New Height of Cut Gauge All About?

We get a lot of questions every month about the RHOC (Reel Height of Cut Gauge). Mainly, why should I buy the RHOC over the other gauges that have been around for years? Very valid question but my typical answer to that is… just because it has been around a long time does that make it better? See the reality is as a company, marketing firm, professional, engineer, or parent you have to be able to evolve. You have to continue to stay a step ahead of the competition or your product only gets remembered in documentaries or as a parent your kids become much smarter than you. In the Equipment Manager’s world you get replaced by people that are willing to move things forward. The height of cut gauge won’t make that determination but we all have a tendency to stick with what we are comfortable with or the way we have always done it.

The idea behind the RHOC gauge is exactly that. For years we have been measuring something in .001’s of an inch but yet we are all measuring differently. Why is that acceptable? If we know that these other gauges flex and each one is different why do we continue to be ok with using them? The idea behind the gauge was that we wanted to be able to set every machine the exact same no matter what technician was using it. During a PGA tour event I wanted to be able to check the work of my assistants and there was no way to do that with what we have. So we helped make it better. We then sold prototype gauges to some of the top clubs around the US to try and return with feedback to what is now the production model of “The RHOC”.
